PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical disk device capable of reducing the starting time by making suitable the amount of the movement of an optical pickup performed before the adjustment of a track error signal. SOLUTION: This device is constituted in such a manner that whether the optical pickup 1 is preliminarily positioned in the area on the optical disk medium 2 where the necessary track exists, when the track error signal is adjusted is detected by a signal amplitude detecting circuit 17, and the process manageable by the necessary minimum limit of moving time is performed by a microprocessor 6 even when the movement of the optical pickup is required.
