PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of producing a heterocyclic compound by a hetero-Diels-Alder reaction as a so-called 'green chemistry', mild to the environ ment because of a small amount of a waste material because a volatile and chemically unstable organic solvent is not used. SOLUTION: This method of producing the heterocyclic compound by reacting imines represented by general formula (1): R5-C=N-R6 (1) (wherein, R5 and R6 are each a monovalent group) with a diene having a conjugated double bond comprises carrying out the reaction in the presence of a Lewis acid and an ionic liquid. The hetero-Diels-Alder reaction applied to the method is characterized in that the reaction is represented by the formula (wherein, R3, R4 R5 and R6 are each independently a substituent), and the diene positions a cis- addition configuration to keep the relative configuration of the substituents in the dienophile. |
