PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical isolator which is small in polarized wave dispersion, without having to provide a special polarized wave dispersion reduction means, such as a compensator. SOLUTION: The polarized wave non-dependence optical isolator disposes a Faraday rotor 4 between two double refractivity wedge plates 1 and 2, whose optical incidence and emission surfaces are an inclined plane and a non-inclined plane, the inclined planes 1a and 2a of the double refraction wedge plates 1 and 2 are disposed so as to turn to the each opposite side of the Faraday rotation element 4, and is disposed so as to be parallel together. The material of the double refractivity wedge plates 1 and 2 is lithium niobate crystal. A length L of the side, where the non-inclined planes 1b and 2b of the double refractivity wedge plates 1 and 2 face the Faraday rotor element 4, maximum thickness T, and desirably the inclined angleθhave the relations 600μm<L<2,500μm, T>=300μm,θ>=6.6 deg., L>120.6θ-1.029×(T-555)-4183, and the relations 600μm<L<2,500μm, T>=300μm,θ>=6.6 deg., L>120.6θ-1.029×(T-150)-939.
