The invention relates to nucleic acid sequences which code for a polypeptide with nitrilase activity, nucleic acid constructs containing said nucleic aci ds and vectors containing said nucleic acids or said nucleic acid constructs. T he invention also relates to amino acid sequences which are coded by the nuclei c acid sequences and micro-organisms containing said nucleic acid sequences, said nucleic acid constructs or vectors containing said nucleic acid sequenc es or said nucleic acid constructs. The invention also relates to an enzymatic method for producing carboxylic acids from the corresponding nitriles.
