PURPOSE: Liquid crystal display and method for manufacturing the same are to melt and cut a residual particle of a pixel electrode using a laser beam, thereby preventing a shorting of adjacent pixel electrodes. CONSTITUTION: A gate line(33), a data line(43), a thin film transistor connected to the gate line and the data line, and a storage capacitor are formed on a transparent substrate(31). A light absorbent layer(57) is formed at an edge portion defined by the gate line and the data line. A passivation film is formed on the entire surface of the resultant transparent substrate and is patterned to form the first and second contact holes(51,53) for exposing a source electrode(45) of the thin film transistor and a dummy electrode(47) of the storage capacitor. A pixel electrode(55) is formed on the passivation film. The pixel electrode is in contact with the source electrode and the dummy electrode through the first and second contact holes. An edge portion of the pixel electrode is overlapped with the light absorbent layer.
