PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To omit the cleaning work of a confluent chamber at the time of measurement in a sample diluting method wherein the sample solution discharged from a sample collecting pipe and a diluent thereof are allowed to meet with each other in the confluent chamber, and the diluted sample solution is supplied to a mixing chamber to be measured. SOLUTION: A predetermined amount of a diluent is preliminarily supplied to the confluent chamber 10 and a sample collecting pipe 2 is subsequently dipped in the diluent at the central part of the confluent chamber to discharge the sample solution to surround the same by the diluent. After the discharge of the sample solution from the sample collecting pipe 2 is completed, the confluent solution 1 is supplied to the mixing chamber 15. When the confluent solution is discharged before being naturally mixed, the adhesion of the sample solution to the peripheral wall of the confluent chamber 10 is prevented because the sample solution is surrounded by the diluent.
