Electrode in water supply creates alkaline medium of limestone nanocrystals continually inoculating water supply

In a process to minimise the deposit of limestone scale on the pipes and component parts forming a water system, a cathode electrode located within the flow of water generates an alkaline medium resulting in spontaneous generation of limestone nanocrystals. The nanocrystals act as inoculation crystals around which further limestone deposits take place. Also claimed is a suitable electrode (12) assembly connected to an electrical power source. The electrode rests on a support made of a water-porous material.
