SEPARATION OF GASES CONTAINING SF6

The invention relates to the separation of gas mixtures of SF6 and N2, which are used, for example, as insulating filling gases for ground cables, insulating gas layers and as filling gas for car tyres and of SF6 and air mixtures, which are used as protective gas in magnesium casting. Said separation is achieved, whereby the mixtures are brought into contact with a hydrophobic zeolite of specific pore size as a selective adsorption agent for sulphur hexafluoride. At high SF6 concentrations the mixture is preferably first subjected to a membrane separation process and the permeate brought into contact with the adsorption agent. The invention further relates to a device for carrying out said method. The method may also be used for the separation of SF6 from exhaust gases.
