PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a pressure-sensitive adhesive composition having good pressure-sensitive adhesive properties by forming a block copolymer having a (meth)acrylate polymer component introduced thereinto in the absence of a solvent or in the presence of a small amount of a solvent and using this copolymer as the main ingredient. SOLUTION: A (meth)acrylic acid precursor monomer and a (meth)acrylate monomer are subjected to a living radical polymerization in a suitable monomer order in the presence of a transition metal and its ligand by using a polymerization initiator, giving a block copolymer precursor comprising at least two blocks, i.e., a (meth)acrylic acid precursor polymer block A and a (meth)acrylate polymer block B, bonded to each other. The precursor polymer block A is converted into a (meth)acrylic acid polymer block A, giving a block copolymer comprising at least two blocks, i.e., a (meth)acrylic acid polymer block A and a (meth) acrylate polymner block B, bonded to each other. Thus obtained block copolymer is used as the main ingredient of a pressure-sensitive adhesive composition.
