PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for treating acute or chronic renal insufficiency or renal dysfunction, or a state caused by them in a mammal because a demand for a receptor-selective prostaglandin therapy hardly having side effects such as the one caused by a nonselective medicine is present. SOLUTION: This method for treating the acute or chronic renal insufficiency or renal dysfunction comprises administration of a prostaglandin agonist which is an EP4 receptor-selective prostaglandin agonist. A compound represented by general formula (1) (whereun, Q is COOR3, CONHR4 or tetrazol-5-yl; A is a single bond or a cis double bond; u is a group represented by formula (2) ; and R is ethyl, phenyl, phenoxy or the like) is exemplified as the prostaglandin agonist. The composition contains the prostaglandin agonist or the like.
