PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a file that keeps its cover surfaces less liable to swell in the vertical middle, is prevented from inclining and sticking out into an adjacent storage area, and is continuously stored in the center of a storage area even in a storage area on a transfer unit. SOLUTION: A file storage device carries files into and out of a file cabinet by means of a transfer unit. The files 6 have a boxlike shape and comprise holders 6a to 6c of different thicknesses. The thinnest holder 6a forms guide portions 9 by the upper and lower ends, and the other thicker holders 6b and 6c have at the upper and lower ends guide portions 9 of a width equal to the thickness of the thinnest holder 6a. The cabinet unit 1 has recessed guide grooves 8 having the substantially same width as the guide portions 9 of the holders 6 along the top and bottom of each shelf space. The files are stored in the file cabinet unit with their guide portions 9 at the upper and lower ends of the holders 6a to 6c fitted in the guide grooves 8 of the cabinet unit 1. |
