PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a display device to brightly project picture information formed by a liquid crystal light valve onto a specified surface with the reduced loss of a light quantity and a projection device using it. SOLUTION: In the display device in which plural picture elements are arrayed in a matrix state and which performs the forming of the picture information by changing the optical characteristics of the plural picture elements by a driving signal and optically modulating an incident luminous flux and possesses a first condensing means in which plural condensing members are arranged in accordance with the plural picture elements and a second condensing means in which the plural condensing members are arranged in accordance with the plural picture elements, the second condensing means is arranged on the side of the plural picture elements opposed to the side on which the first condensing means is arranged and also is arranged at the condensing position of the first condensing means.
