PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an organic electroluminescence element that has a high luminous efficiency and luminous brightness and can suppress lowering of brightness during a long period of driving. SOLUTION: An organic electroluminescence element comprises a layer 8 containing luminous substance which is provided between a positive electrode 2 and a negative electrode 6 and emits light by being supplied with electric energy to the luminous material. The negative electrode 6 contains an element 'f' which has an electronegativity larger than calcium and equal to or smaller than vanadium, an element 'p' which has an electronegativity equal to or larger than aluminum and, as necessary, an element 'd' which has an electronegativity equal to or larger than either of iron, cobalt and nickel, and has an electronegativity equal to or smaller than gold.
