PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To drain water without use of downpipe and without polluting the surface of a concrete retaining wall even if backwater within the retaining wall reaches a saturated condition. SOLUTION: The concrete retaining wall is formed by arranging retaining wall blocks adjacent to their side face portions. The retaining wall block 2, formed with a first recess 10 extending from the upper end to the lower end of the block and also with a second recess 12 extending from the back face part 5 to the front face part 4 of the retaining wall and crossing the first recess 10, is formed while its side face portion 6 adjoins the side face portions of other retaining wall blocks 2. The retaining wall block 2 is connected to other adjacent retaining wall blocks 2, with the first recesses 10 butted together, to form a first drain passage 20 passing through the retaining wall blocks 2 along the direction of erection. The second recesses 12 are butted against the first drain passage to form a second drain passage 22 passing through the blocks from the back face part 5 to the front face part 4 and crossing the first drain passage 20.
