PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an AC plasma display, its driving method and driver enabling improvement of the vertical resolution, lower background luminance, excellent contrast in dark area and enlargement of the operating voltage range. SOLUTION: During an addressing period 2-f, the whole maintaining electrode C is held at the GND (ground) level and the auxiliary electrode A2n above of each scanning electrode S is held at an intermediate bias potential between the scanning voltage Vw and reference voltage GND. The bias potential is the same as the scanning base pulse voltage and between the maintaining voltage and ground potential. While the negative scanning pulses Psc-s and Psc-A are impressed to the scanning electrode Sn where the writing is made, and to the auxiliary electrode A2n-1 adjacent to the lower side of the scanning electrode Sn respectively, the positive pole data pulse Pd is impressed to the data electrode D.
