METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR CORRECTING ERROR OF WIRELESS ASYNCHRONOUS TRANSFER MODE COMMUNICATION SYSTEM

PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus for correcting an error of a wireless asynchronous transfer mode(ATM) communication system is provided to improve error correction ability of a Reed-Solomon(RS) code and an RCC(Rate Compatible Convolutional) code using a combination method in case that a retransfer of a transferred packet is requested by adjusting a coding rate of the RS code and the RCC code according to a quality of service(QoS) requested in the wireless ATM communication system and a wireless channel environment and by dividing an ATM cell packet into a header packet and a payload packet to have a different coding rate. CONSTITUTION: The first RS encoder(200) receives a packet composed as a header of an ATM cell, encodes the received packet using an RS code, and punctures the encoded packet to output a pair of the first header packets and the second header packets. The second RS encoder(201) receives a packet composed as a payload of the ATM cell and a CRC(Cyclic Redundancy Check) with a ceratin byte, encodes the received packet, and punctures the encoded packet to output a pair of the first payload packets and the second payload packets. A symbol interleaver(202) receives a C1 packet and a C2 packet with which the header packets outputted from the first RS encoder(200) and the payload packets outputted from the second RS encoder(201) are combined, and performs a symbol interleaving of the received C1 packet and C2 packet to output the C1 packet and C2 packet with b-bit. An RCC encoder(203) encodes the C1 packet and C2 packet outputted from the symbol interleaver(202) using a convolutional code. A bit interleaver(204) performs a bit interleaving of a packet outputted from the RCC encoder(203).
