PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely and quickly perform locking operation and unlocking operation by a lock pin in a valve timing control device. SOLUTION: A hydraulic releasing mechanism 50 for releasing the lock pin 41 for locking a vane rotor 20 and a housing rotor 30 is formed by an end face 41a' and an annular surface 41b' of the lock pin, a gap passage C3 normally communicating from a spark advance pressure chamber AC to the end face 41a', a first oil passage communicating from the spark advance pressure chamber AC to the annular surface 41b', a second oil passage communicating from a retard pressure chamber RC to the annular surface 41b', and a seal member 91 for opening one of the first oil passage and the second oil passage and closing the other thereof according to a pressure difference between the spark advance pressure chamber AC and the retard pressure chamber RC.
