PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video recording device for faithfully recording character information as much as possible even when a video signal comprising character information is recorded via TBC. SOLUTION: The video recording device is the one for recording video information comprising character information in a recording medium and is provided with an ADC 100 for successively receiving video information, a character information extracting part 102 for extracting character information from video information, a video recording control part 101 for performing omission or superimposition as to partial video information of a received video information group and outputting it by fixed period, a character information recording control part 103 for outputting extracted character information by fixed period and a recording part 106 for respectively recording outputted video information and character information by correspondence to reception order. The part 103 judges whether the value of extracted character information is null or not under a prescribed condition, removes the character information from an output object in the case of the null value and permits the succeeding character information to be an object outputted from a character information output means.
