PURPOSE: A refrigerator is provided, in which defrost time is determined corresponding to the degree of frost formation around an evaporator, to thereby achieve an efficient operation of the refrigerator. CONSTITUTION: A refrigerator comprises: a main body(11) having a freezing compartment(13) and a refrigerating compartment(15); an evaporator(29) installed in an air flow channel(24) formed by a shroud member(23) arranged along the rear side of the freezing compartment; a defrost heater(30) for removing the frost formed on the surface of the evaporator; an inlet side air pressure sensor(31) arranged at the upstream of the evaporator with respect to the air flow direction; an outlet side air pressure sensor(33) arranged at the downstream of the evaporator with respect to the air flow direction; and a control unit for controlling the defrost heater in such a manner that the defrost operation for the evaporator is performed in accordance with the inlet and outlet side air pressure values detected by the inlet side and outlet side air pressure sensors.
