PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shock absorber capable of effectively absorbing and relaxing an impulsive force acting to a bumper for a vehicle. SOLUTION: The shock absorber 10 includes a rod/cylinder assembling body interposed between a car body and a bumper cover. The assembling body has a telescopic structure is which a movable rod 20, a small-diameter cylinder 30, and a large-diameter cylinder 40 are assembled in series relatively movably. The base end of the movable rod is integrally provided with a small-diameter piston 24 slidably in an air cell 35 of the small-diameter cylinder, and the base end of the small-diameter cylinder is integrally provided with a large-diameter piston 34 slidably in an air cell 45 of the large-diameter cylinder. The large- diameter cylinder has an air flowing out means 46, and ejects air in the large- diameter cylinder compressed during the sliding of the large-diameter piston to the external field in response to the compression action.
