The present invention describes a mechanism which can perform high speed correction of position and feed of a medium such as paper without being affected by the physical characteristic of the medium. A weight idler is mounted in a position of an upper stream in a feed path in a medium processing apparatus for causing a proper frictional force to be generated on a medium being fed. In one aspect of the present invention, the weight idler can move in a direction along a thickness of the medium to absorb the thickness of the medium. When the medium is inserted, the weight idler rides on the medium to cause a proper frictional force to generate on the medium so as to prevent an overrun of the medium caused by the feed operation of rollers having a non-circular cross section.
