An immersion agent comprises a transparent elastomer having an elongation at tear of more than 300% and an elastic modulus of less than 200 N/cm2>. Independent claims are also included for the following: (a) a device for coupling a light waveguide with an optical component comprising using the immersion agent in an amount of less than 5 mu l; and (b) a process for coupling a light waveguide with an optical component comprising guiding a light waveguide at a distance of 2-20 Microm to the coupling surface of the optical component; depositing approximately 5 mu l immersion agent of the to the coupling site and allowing the agent to harden.
