PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To optimize crawler tension regulation and crawler traveling-driving regarding crawler chain driving. SOLUTION: This method is provided for operating a working machine provided with a driving motor for driving a driving crawler chain; a crawler tension regulating assembly 248 for regulating the tension of the driving crawler chain; and a working instrument for performing a work function. The method includes a step of performing no-load running of the driving motor to interrupt the travel of the working machine for a first specified period, a step of operating the working instrument to perform the work function for the first specified period, a step of operating the crawler tension regulating assembly to heighten the tension of the driving crawler chain for the first specified period, a step of operating the driving motor to make the working machine travel for a second specified period, and a step of operating the crawler tension regulating assembly to lower the tension of the driving crawler chain. The working machine is also disclosed.
