PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical fiber coil in use for a fiber type dispersion compensator and an optical fiber amplifier, having low loss or low polarization mode dispersing property, and its winding method. SOLUTION: The optical fiber winding method is adopted in which a primary glass fiber as a dummy is preliminary wound on a reel and an actual optical fiber is wound thereon, rather than the actual optical fiber is wound directly on the reel, because internal stress on the long optical fiber is relaxed when the optical fiber is wound on the small-diameter reel. In the optical fiber winding method, the optical fiber coil having low loss and low polarization mode dispersing property is obtained.
