<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an occupant judging apparatus to judge the detailed seating posture necessary for the fine control of the unfolding of an air bag while enabling the high-speed and detailed distance measurement by paying attention to the fact that an auxiliary light source is essential at night during the measurement by an image sensor in an air bag system for vehicle, and devising the configuration of the auxiliary light source. SOLUTION: An auxiliary light unit 60 irradiates an upper part of the body Ma with the diffuse light from a light emitting element 61, and an irradiation point P on the upper part of the body Ma is irradiated by the beam from a light emitting element 62. The image sensor 50 picks up the image of the upper part of the body Ma under the irradiation by the diffuse light, and picks up the image of the upper part of the body Ma under the irradiation of the diffuse light and the beam, and outputs the image data. A microcomputer 90 extracts the irradiation point P by two kinds of the differential data of the image data, the distance between the upper part of the body Ma and the air bag 20 is calculated by the triangulation method making use of the extracted result to judge the posture of the seated occupant.</p> |
