PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve problems that a shadow mask is extended toward outside 4 directions along diagonal lines since the distribution of the tensile force is low at a central portion and is high near both sides, and vibration of the shadow mask remains, so that the color purity is reduced at the central portion of a picture screen, in a shadow mask body of prior arts. SOLUTION: In the shadow mask body 10, a tensile force at a central portion of the shadow mask 12 is larger than both ends thereof. A method of manufacturing the shadow mask body 10 comprises steps of applying a larger pressure at the central portion than that at both ends, in longer sides 11A of a mask frame, elastically deforming the mask frame 11 to a pin shape, making narrower the longer sides 11A, especially in the central portion in comparison with both ends, suspending the shadow mask 12 on the longer sides 11A of the mask frame, and removing the pressure to apply the tensile force on the shadow mask 12.
