The invention relates to a control unit for a motor vehicle, comprising a display unit, especially an on-board monitor (1), and control elements (5) providing access to various display and control menus (3) that can be displayed by means of said display unit (1). The display and control menus (3) are embodied as information panels (2). Actual settings inside the vehicle can be displayedccording to their physical location therein in an alphanumeric or pictographic form on said information panels.
