摘要 The present invention relates to an optoelectronic transmitter for converting an electrical information signal (Se) into an optical signal (So) that represents the same information. The proposed optoelectronic transmitter includes a multi-section optoelectronic modulator. The light and electrical fields thus interact over multiple modulator sections (421a - 421c) of a continuous waveguide (421). A particular drive cirucit (423a a 423c) delivers a phase-aligned and amplified electrical signal (S'e, S''e; S'''e) to each modulator section (421a - 421c9. For a given extinction ration of the modulated optical signal (So), a signal voltage swing can thereby be used, which is substantially lower than according to any known single- or multi-section modulator structure. This, in turn, makes the proposed optoelectonic transmitter well suited for sending data at high-speed bitrates.
