PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fluid bearing spindle motor capable of stably and positively starting even when the ambient temperature is low, and suppressing the increase in power consumption due to the increase of bearing torque. SOLUTION: In a fluid bearing spindle motor in which a rotating member or a shaft 3 and a hub 4 are supported by a fixed member or a sleeve 2 to be rotated-driven through a radial fluid bearing part R and a thrust fluid bearing part S, the fixed member or the sleeve 2 is provided with a heater 10 as a heating means for keeping the temperature of a radial fluid bearing part R at least during starting the motor when the ambient temperature is low, above a specified value (foe example, 10 deg.C, preferably 20 deg.C). When the sleeve 2 is heated by the heater 10, the inner diameter of the sleeve thermally expands to be enlarged, and since bearing clearance of the radial fluid bearing is enlarged, bearing torque is reduced.
