ferrous metallurgy, namely processes for making metallic castings at steel melting conversion. SUBSTANCE: method is realized with use of mold of steel continuous casting plant, said mold is widened upwards or downwards. Method comprises steps of casting melt and simultaneously introducing active additives into it for providing designed super-equilibrium concentration of dissolved oxygen and subsequent removal of it followed by temperature drop in volume of melt and creation of conditions necessary for crystallization of metal in predetermined volume. In order to realize it, different procedures and materials may be used. Casting of killed steel to mold widened downwards allows to substantially (by 10-12%) lower head crop, to simplify stage of preparing composition, to reduce labor consumption and costs for keeping composition. In case of using steel continuous casting plant, speed of ingot drawing may be increased by 1,5 times. It sharply enhances efficiency and allows to avoid construction of new additional steel continuous casting plant in order to enlarge steel production. EFFECT: enhanced efficiency. 11 cl, 1 ex
