PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a structure for preventing an abnormal overheating of a gas cooking stove, which can prevent a wall surface or a counter from being overheated, even if a cooking utensil such as a pan is placed closer to the wall side than it is necessary, or a cooking utensil such as a cauldron is used. SOLUTION: A gas cooking stove 2 is placed along the surface of a building wall 1. A position detector 5 is provided on the side of the upper surface of the cooking stove 2. The detector 5 detects a cooking utensil 4 such as a pan 4a, when the utensil bottom is placed on the grate 3 of the utensil 4 closer to the surface of the wall 1 than a prefixed position. The thermal power controller 6 or a combustion stopper 8 is provided to decrease the maximum thermal power or to stop the combustion, when the position detector 5 detects that the utensil 4 has been placed.
