PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink cartridge which can be fitted to an ink supply needle without letting the air flow thereinto. SOLUTION: An ink supply port 4 is sealed with a seal material 7 which is constituted of two layers, a physical protection layer and an airtightness retaining layer, at least and has a slit formed in the physical protection layer. When the ink cartridge is fitted, the tip 42a of an ink introducing member 42 tears the seal material 7 sealing the ink supply port 4 from the slit 52 formed in the material and makes it open to the air without an increase of the pressure in the space 60 of a packing 45. The ink introducing member 42 thrusts into the packing 45 thereafter.
