PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a digital broadcast signal recorder that can enhance compatibility with an existing analog recording system. SOLUTION: A tuner 28 extracts a signal of a designated channel from a digital broadcast signal received by an antenna 26 and transfers the signal of the designated channel to a CPU 10 via a bus 34. The CPU 10 gives image data and audio data among the signal received from the tuner 28 to a digital/ analog converter 18, which converts the data into an analog signal, and a VTR 20 records the analog output from the digital/analog converter 18. When the received signal is a character, the CPU 10 writes its character code to an area CHAR of a RAM 24. The character information written in the area CHAR of the RAM 24 can be displayed at any time on a liquid crystal display panel 14 through the operation of an operation panel 12. An image pattern having information substantially similar to the real-time reproduction of a digital broadcast program can be reproduced, by displaying the character information of the RAM 24 on the display panel 14, while the image and audio data analogically recorded are reproduced onto the VTR 20.
