The device has a contact face (31) on a rigid component (27) of the vehicle, a steering knuckle (14) to support and turn each wheel (44), and a steering stop unit (20) mounted detachable on the steering knuckle. The unit has a mounting side and a concave contact side. This is positioned on the steering knuckle so as to be in constant contact with the contact face on the rigid component, independent of knuckle height and position, to limit the angular movement of a wheel. The unit is replaceable, and is of sintered metal, or hard wear-resistant plastic.
