Determining traffic information for motor vehicle by passive reception of data transmitted from control center to unspecified subscribers using e.g. cell broadcast or DAB

Data relating to the road network on which a vehicle is travelling are received by a mobile detector i.e. a motor vehicle, the data being transmitted from a control center (3) to a number of unspecified subscribers using a communication technique. The mobile detector only performs a passive reception. The data may be transmitted using a cell-broadcast technique, digital audio broadcast (DAB) technique or a digital video broadcast (DVB) technique. The data may include the geographic coordinates of the road routes to allow the detector to determine the traffic situation. Independent claims are included for a control center and for a terminal in a mobile detector.
