A process for the production or coated cellulose cardboard comprises the following steps: providing a substrate of cellulose cardboard, applying on said substrate a coating composition comprising: at least an acrylic monomer and/or prepolymer, a covering/waterproofing means a solvent/dispersing means a catalyst/quenching agent a graft initiating/regenerating system allowing graft polymerization to occur on the cellulose material forming the cardboard substrate.
