PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve compression ration in the case of predictive-coding of multi-channel voice signals, and to enable reproduction side to reproduce them on two-channel stereo, using a simple configuration. SOLUTION: A mix and matrix circuit 1' down mixes six-channel PCM data to 2-stereo channels (L, R), and also classifies the original six channels (Lf, C, Rf, Ls, Rs, Lfe) into two stereo channels and four channels related to another group, and converts the four channels into correlated signals '3'-'6'. Coding parts 2'-1, 2'-2 performs predicting coding of the PCM data of the two stereo channels (L, R) and the four channels '3'-'6', respectively, and classify the data into bit streams of each group for formatting them. |
