摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate color drifts, to allow downsizing and to facilitate the cooling of exothermic parts. SOLUTION: This transmission type liquid crystal projector makes the W light (white light) outputted from a light source 10 incident on a color separating element 70 via integrator lenses 12 and 14, separates the light to B(blue) light, G(green) light and R(red) light, makes the light incident on LCDs 30, 34 and 46 for B, G and R by the reflection of mirrors, synthesizes the displayed image light with a color synthesizing element 48 and projects the light to a screen with a projection lens 50. The projector is arranged with the light source 10, the integrator lenses 12 and 14, the LCDs 30, 34 and 46 and the color synthesizing element 48 in proximate positions and is arranged with the mirrors 72 to 82 in such a manner that the R light is made incident on the color synthesizing element 48 via the corresponding LCD 46 after intersection with the W light and the B light and the G light are made incident on the color synthesizing element 48 via the corresponding LCDs 30 and 34 after intersection in mid-way and that the optical path lengths of the B light, the G light and the R light from the color separating element 70 to the LCDs 30, 34 and 46 are made approximately the same.
