PURPOSE: A lockup clutch for automobile is provided to manufacture the piston of a lockup clutch in a simple and inexpensive manner, by dividing a guiding element into circular guiding sections. CONSTITUTION: A lockup clutch(1) comprises a turbine wheel(2), a piston(4) provided with at least one guide element(8) for an elastic member(6), a transverse wall part(5) of a casing(15), and a friction pads(60) acting between transverse surfaces(61,62) fixed to the piston and the transverse wall, respectively. The guide element has a peripheral part having the shape of an axially opened groove(80) toward the piston, so as to mount the elastic member. The turbine wheel has drive plates which engage with elastic elements(182) mounted in separate peripheral housings on the piston. When operated the piston moves axially such that friction pads make contact with the casing, the elastic elements taking up the torque from the turbine wheel and drive plates.
