PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a magnetic tap having good storage property at high temperature, little production of DO(dropout) and excellent electromagnetic conversion characteristics without causing blocking in the film ends when the base film is processed. SOLUTION: The polyester film for a magnetic recording medium consists of a plurality of laminated polyester layers A, B, and the polyester layer B contains 0.05 to 1.0 wt.% of wax and/or soap and 0.001 to 0.10 wt.% of a silicone compound and/or fluorine compound. Further, a ferromagnetic metal thin film layer is applied on the outer surface of the polyester film in the polyester layer A side and a back coating layer is applied on the outer surface of the polyester layer B to produce the magnetic tape.
