PURPOSE: A gateway system for a VTOA(Voice and Telephony Over ATM) service is provided to implement the voice communication between PSTN/N-ISDN subscribers through an ATM network. CONSTITUTION: An N-ISDN interface module(30) provides an N-ISDN interface for a PRI(Primary Rate Interface) connection of an N-ISDN. An AAL2 module(32) performs an AAL2 function and provides an interface for connecting to an ATM network(14). An Ethernet module(34) is sued for processing an out-of band signal. A system memory(40) stores the programs related to a software downloaded to the modules(30,32,34) and an environment setting of the system and a user's interface, and provides a basic memory when performing the programs. A CPU(42) downloads the software of the modules(30,32,34) stored in the system memory(40), sets an initial environment and provides a user's interface for a verification, system state indication and setting, statistic and charging functions.
