PURPOSE: A method for providing VPN service using a session agent is provided to select the optimum VPN through a session agent and provide the convenient service to a user by executing frequently generated user verification. CONSTITUTION: A user sets up an ISP(32) and a link by using PPP loaded in a user terminal(31), and connection between the user terminal(31) and the ISP(32) is set up and a public IP address is assigned from the ISP(32). If the user wants services through a VPN, the optimum VPN(Virtual Private Network) is selected by stopping the current Internet connection and rejoining, or through a session agent(33) without stopping the current Internet connection. If the user wants to set up the VPN through the session agent(33), the optimum VPN access router and a VPN withdrawal router are selected until the wanted destination service node by using directory function. Tunnels are set up and resources are assigned from the user terminal(31) to the VPN access router by using tunneling protocol. After the user sets up the wanted VPN, the user can be use services such as Intranet, and data transmission and reception. If the user terminates the use of VPN service, the user transmits a release request message and the VPN tunnel and network resources set up for the user are released.
