PURPOSE: A height adjusting device makes a headrest contact on the upper part of a seat back when there is no passenger seating on a seat and ascend to the upper side of the seat back appropriately to the physique of a passenger when there is a passenger seating. CONSTITUTION: A height adjusting device comprises a stay(5) of a headrest(3), an operating device(6), a detecting sensor(7) and a controller(8). The stay(5) is installed to a frame(2) of a seat back(1) vertically and movably. The operating device(6) selectively moves the stay(5). The detecting sensor(7) is installed on the front side of the headrest(3) and detects whether a passenger seats or not by the transmitted and received signal. The controller(8) receives the receiving signal of the detecting sensor(7) to control the operating device(6).
