APPARATUS FOR SUPPLYING SHIELDING GAS TO COOLING ROLL IN TWIN ROLL STRIP CASTING MACHINE

PURPOSE: An apparatus for supplying a shielding gas to a cooling roll in a twin roll strip casting machine is provided to improve quality of a strip and secure durability of rolls by differing temperature distribution of an inert gas supplied to prevent reoxidation of molten steel in a roll width direction, thereby compensating abnormal solidification such as delay of solidification mainly generated on the strip edge during casting. CONSTITUTION: The apparatus comprises a pair of gas ejecting pipes (11,11a) each of which are installed parallel to a width direction of the rolls (3), and on which a plurality of nozzles (12) are formed; a plurality of cylinder members (13) which are arranged at both sides of the gas ejecting pipes (11,11a) and reciprocates piston members (14) assembled in the inner hole of the gas ejecting pipes (11,11a) forward and backward so as to control the gas ejecting width through the nozzles (12); high temperature and ordinary temperature gas lines (15,16) supplying high temperature and ordinary temperature gases to the side of the gas ejecting pipes (11,11a) respectively; a thermometer (19) detecting the surface temperature on the total width of the strip (5) casted straightly under the rolls (3); and a controller controlling supplying widths, supplying amounts and supplying temperatures of ordinary temperature and high temperature gases into the center part and both edge parts of the rolls based on the temperature values detected by the thermometer (19).
