PURPOSE: A high toughness steel sheet for a side member is provided to secure the safety of the body of an automobile by manufacturing a steel sheet comprising 0.08 to 0.12 wt.% of C, 0.8 to 1.2 wt.% of Si, 1.0 to 1.5 wt.% of Mn, 0.05 to 0.08 wt.% of P, 0.003 wt.% or less of S and 0.03 to 0.06 wt.% of Nb or Ti, thereby improving the impact absorbing capability when mounted to a side member. CONSTITUTION: The high toughness steel sheet for a side member is manufactured into a steel sheet comprising 0.08 to 0.12 wt.% of C, 0.8 to 1.2 wt.% of Si, 1.0 to 1.5 wt.% of Mn, 0.05 to 0.08 wt.% of P, 0.003 wt.% or less of S and 0.03 to 0.06 wt.% of Nb or Ti.
