PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing a battery, ensuring bonding of a collecting plate throughout its width to pole plate groups, in a short time with electronic beam irradiation. SOLUTION: This method of manufacturing the battery using the pole plate groups 1 each, consisting of a positive electrode plate, a negative electrode plate and a separator comprises bonding the collecting plate 3 to the end faces of the positive and negative electrode plates. An electron beam 4 is repeatedly irradiated to the collecting plates in the cross direction along the direction of laminating the pole plate groups. Its scanning waveform, which consists of triangular and sine waves combined at a proper ratio, slower in scanning speed at both ends in the cross direction than at the middle portion, is used for heating and melting an electron beam radiated portion 5 of the collecting plate 3 to be bonded to the end faces of the pole plates, in such a manner that the collecting plate 3 is bonded uniformly throughout its width in one irradiation process, while properly increasing the heat quantity at both ends.
