The invention relates to a process for purifying effluents resulting from the drug synthesis industry, said effluents being rich in organic and inorganic substances, a special problem arising due to the high concentration ammonium ions. According to the invention, the process comprises homogenizing, coagulation-flocculation with FeCl3 or Al 2 (SO 4)3, settling followed by biological treatment for removing the organic charge in an aerobic biofilter system with granular active carbon support and nitrification in aerobic biofilter system with volcano tufa support, ensuring the effluent purification with 95 ... 97 % CCOCr and 97 ... 98% CBO 5, the final effluent being colourless and odourless.
