PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for producing activated carbon, capable of carrying out a carbonization process and an activation process by the same device, neither exhausting a harmful exhaust gas into the air nor polluting the air, taking an environment into consideration. SOLUTION: A rotary furnace 7 equipped with a steam supply pipe 18, a carbon dioxide gas supply pipe 19 and an oxygen gas supply pipe 20 is installed in a heating furnace 1. The heating furnace 1 and the rotary furnace 7 are equipped with an exhaust vent 2 and an exhaust vent 11, respectively. The exhaust vent 11 of the rotary furnace 7 is detachably furnished with the end part of an exhaust passage 30 of the rotary furnace 7 connected to a scrubber 29 for cleaning the exhaust gas from the rotary furnace 7 installed at the outside of the heating furnace 1. A combustion furnace 37 for burning a cleaned exhaust gas exhausted from the scrubber 29 is arranged in the middle of an exhaust passage 35B of the scrubber 29. |
