PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polymer optical waveguide which is inexpensive and has good characteristics and a method for manufacturing the same. SOLUTION: In forming a clad substrate 2 of the polymer optical waveguide composed of a core 1 consisting of a transparent synthetic resin, the clad substrate 2 consisting of a transparent synthetic resin covering the core 1 and an upper clad layer 3 covering the core 1 and the clad substrate 2, the clad substrate 2 is formed by injection molding using a mixture composed of the synthetic resin 2a having a high flow property at the molding temperature and having the refractive index lower than the refractive index of the core 1 and the synthetic resin 2b having the low flow property at the molding temperature and having the high refractive index, by which the synthetic resin 2a having the high flow property and the low refractive index is formed as a skin layer on the surface after the molding. The using amt. of the costly low-refractive index synthetic resin 2a is therefore reduced. The polymer optical waveguide is not constituted by forming the clad substrate 2 with the low- refractive index synthetic resin 2a alone and therefore there is no more need for considering the characteristics, such as mechanical strength, of the low-refractive index synthetic resin as the substrate and the selection width of the materials is widened. |
