In the resolution of racemic alcohols and carboxylic acid esters the slower or quicker reacting enantiomer is fluorine-labeled under lipase catalysis. Resolution of racemic alcohols and carboxylic acid esters comprises: A) lipase-catalyzed reaction of (a) a racemic alcohol with a fluorinated acylating agent or (b) a racemic carboxylic acid ester with a fluorinated alcohol or (c) a fluorinated carboxylic acid ester of a racemic alcohol with water; and B) extractive separation of the enantiomers by distribution between a fluorinated and non-fluorinated solvent.
